Our final Finding Home dialogue at Hillside Seniors Health Centre in Victoria was all about How To Deal With Transitions. We started by discussing life transitions in general and what helped them through previous transitions. People shared current transitions such as deciding to sell a house; moving into assisted living; diet changes in order to cope with being diagnosed with diabetes; and the loss of a spouse and becoming a widow.
All agreed transitions are often difficult. However, they were also quick to point out the benefits transitions can offer such as: time for reflection, opportunity to grow and learn; make new connections; and create a new future.
Other tips discussed about how to cope with transitions or ride the wave of change that transitions inevitably bring include: being aware of resistance and learn how to transform it; creative visualization; and extreme self care. If you would like to learn more about the two fabulous Finding Home posters that were created that give a summary of these tips and many more, contact Liz Carter at Hillside Seniors Health Centre to learn how you can be part of thier new Seniors Conversation Cafes in Victoria: Elizabeth.McCarter@viha.ca.
